Homicide investigation underway after man shot near Hampton Roads Center Parkway

Police found a 21-year-old man dead inside a car at the Hampton Roads Center Parkway near the I-64 on-ramp.

HAMPTON, Va. — Police are investigating a man's death as a homicide after he was shot near an I-64 on-ramp overnight.

Officers were sent to check on a crash in the area of Hampton Roads Center Parkway near I-64 around 12:31 a.m. Tuesday. When they got there, they found a car that had crashed into a guardrail. A 21-year-old man was found dead inside the car. 

At first, police didn't know how exactly he died, but after some investigation, they learned he was shot.

The eastbound lanes of Hampton Roads Center Parkway east of the I-64 on-ramp was closed for several hours for the police investigation. It's now reopened.

Authorities are still working to learn the motive behind the shooting. No suspect information has been released at this time. Police won't release the victim's name until next of kin have been notified.
