California-style food served at Bandido's Tacos & Burritos in Virginia Beach

For instance, owner Ken Leach fries the taco shells and coats them in parmesan dust, adding a crunch and a desire to return for more.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Editor's note: This story is a part of our Friday Flavor series.

There's a big flavor coming from a little unsuspecting spot in Sandbridge.

Bandido's Tacos & Burritos food truck is nestled in the corner of a parking lot at 661 Sandbridge Road. Though tiny, the flavors are incredible.

Owner Ken Leach said he opened Bandido's after moving to Sandbridge from California in 2012.

"I said, well, maybe I'll open a little taco truck, and I did," he said. "Ten years later, I'm still here."

They serve breakfast and lunch, opening at 7 a.m. every day. Leach said their breakfast tacos and burritos are simple, "Egg, bacon, sausage, cheese, salsa, and hot sauce if you want it."

It's lunch where they shine.

"We serve tacos, burritos, quesadillas, salads, nachos, churros, whatever's on [the] menu," he said.

Leach brings his California roots to his food. For instance, he fries the taco shells and coats them in parmesan dust, adding a crunch and a desire to return for more. Though the menu is long and delicious, the classics are the best sellers, like the beef taco, chicken taco, and burrito. They sound simple, but they are packed with flavor.

Our 13News Now team was obsessed with the fresh food coming out of this truck, and we aren't alone.

Leach said people travel from all over to grab a bite. When we asked why they liked it so much, his answer was simple, "Because they can't get it anywhere else."

When we asked Leach if there was anything else he wanted to say, he looked around his parking lot and his truck, smiled, and said, "I enjoy doing it, or I wouldn't have been here ten years."

He continued: "I guess being here ten years, the food's got to be good."

Yes, the food indeed is good.

If you want to visit Bandido's, you can find them in the parking lot at 661 Sandbridge Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23456. Their fall hours are 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
