Former patients flock to FBI tip line to detail unnecessary surgeries

The FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office created a webpage for former patients of Dr. Javaid Perwaiz to have easier access to information.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Chesapeake OBGYN, Dr. Javaid Perwaiz ended up in jail without bond after an FBI investigation.

Perwaiz is charged with medicare fraud and making false statements relating to healthcare matters.

As the FBI investigates, it wanted to make things a little easier for current and former patients of the doctor. The FBI and the US Attorney's Office of Eastern Virginia have set up a webpage with information about the case and how to reach out to law enforcement.

The FBI and the Regional US Attorney's Office announced the creation of the website on Thursday.

"The US Attorney's Office and the FBI have established a page on its website. It includes a copy of the criminal complaint and a supporting affidavit summarizing the charges against Dr. Perwaiz," said Joshua Stueve, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney's Office of Eastern Virginia.

The FBI wants any other women who think they may have had unnecessary surgeries at the hands of the Chesapeake OBGYN to come forward.

Luqueen Williams said that as a former patient who underwent multiple unnecessary surgeries, she decided to go to the website.

“It's emotional when I'm writing it out to them because I'm trying to give them every detail of what Dr. Perwaiz did to me. And they just ask you different questions like were you a patient, what was done to you,” said Williams.

Williams said that she can no longer have children because of the surgeries she went through.

"Perwaiz told me I just had to have surgery. All he did was an ultrasound on me,” said Williams.

Prosecutors said Perwaiz altered ultrasound findings to justify surgery to patients and health groups.

Williams said every former patient impacted should go to the hotline or website and talk to investigators.

"For the ones that never had kids, he may be the reason you never had kids. You don't know what he was doing to you,” said Williams.

The webpage can be reached by clicking here.

The FBI encourages anyone with information to call the FBI's tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
